HSE x ITS: The Alternative Cinema Poster Competition Haulout (2022)
Like a mountain of bodies, thousands of walruses now pile upon the island, a place that was once just a temporary stop in their migration. With no sea ice left to rest on, they are forced ashore in overwhelming numbers, struggling for space, breath, and survival. What should have been a refuge has become a scene of desperation.
The island, once a temporary stop for migrating walruses, has now become their final resting place. Thousands of them, forced ashore by the disappearance of sea ice, struggle for space, their bodies overcrowded and exhausted. What was once a seasonal refuge is now a symbol of loss—a place where survival meets its limit.
walrus stands apart, gazing into the distance as if searching for a safer place—only to find an ocean that no longer freezes. This poster visually captures the impact of globalization and global warming on wildlife, especially walruses losing their home.
Through the lenses of his binoculars, the scientist watches as thousands of walruses crowd the shore, their bodies packed tightly together. What was once a seasonal migration has become an overwhelming gathering, a desperate response to the loss of their icy habitat. As a silent witness to this unfolding crisis, he sees not just the animals, but the impact of a changing world.
A massive gathering of walruses blankets the desolate shore of the Chukchi Sea, their bodies piled upon one another in an overwhelming display of survival. Once dependent on sea ice, they are now forced to crowd these unfamiliar, shrinking spaces.
Through the frosted window of a remote Arctic cabin, a scientist gazes out at a mass of walruses, their bodies pressed tightly together. Once rulers of the vast icy shores, they now gather desperately on land, seeking refuge as their true home—the frozen sea—disappears. The warmth inside contrasts with the cold, crowded reality outside, reflecting their silent plea: a longing for a habitat that is vanishing.
Thank You!
