Purity and Threshold
Purity and Threshold — an audio installation exploring liminal states. The boundaries between wakefulness and sleep, life and reality, and dreaming and existence. The installation does not offer ready-made answers, but rather creates conditions for internal immersion. It evokes a sense of anticipation, transition, and the blurring of familiar boundaries—all these states are fluid.

This piece consists of six tracks played through acoustic speakers. The sound is light, yet mysterious, blending elements of chimes with long, synthesized string timbres. The composition ran for five minutes and forty seconds.

About the Exhibition

The work was submitted through the open call «Okna» and the HSE Art and Design School, which ran until May 4, 2025. The installation «Purity and Threshold» was selected by the organizers and participated in a joint exhibition by the HSE SOUND LAB and the OKNO Sound Art Gallery Club. The audio exhibition ran from May 22 to June 17, 2025. Visitors could experience the works in a 6-channel sound environment. Admission to the exhibition was free.
In fourteen multi-channel compositions, a sonic arc unfolds—moving from unity to the dissolution of form, from internal states to a fragmented, distorted reality. We hear a symbiosis with nature, where boundaries collapse and liminal canvases envelop consciousness. A ritual of purification takes place—a calling of the rain to wash away exhaustion and immerse oneself in a trance-like mist to contemplate the void as a distinct experience.
Returning to reality with communication glitches, amid dialogues with non-human entities, the soundscape is filled with the pulsation of techno-organic bodies and the ghostly echo of pain. The cycle concludes with a noise field as a gesture of transformation: liberation from the accumulated.
