It was the first issue of my own magazine. The story of «Projector» started in August 2007. Shortly before that I’ve spent half a year at Bauhaus, working on an interdisciplinary project in Dessau. So I was overfilled with the materials about the legendary design school, and quite naturally started the issue with the publication about Herbert Bayer and Joost Schmidt.
Next came the story of Faldins' — a Saint-Petersburg based, but internationally acknowledged graphic family.
The «Russian design» an artistic project of Alexander and Olga Florensky started in the first issue and was completed after twelve publications during three years.
«The book of letters» — a project by Maxim Gourbatov and Anna Tchaykovskaya. Designers create awesome sculptures of the old wooden typographic letters.
Vladimir Yefimov told his story of working with Goethe Text typeface. Its' cyrillic version beared a distinct latin accent, which was necessary to correct.
Igor Bryakilev — an inventor and constructor of self-made pinhole photo cameras presented a series of his works.
And the section dedicated to the design education told the story of the Children’s Design Center — one of the very few fundamental design programs aimed at the children of the school age.
And that time I was teaching at the Graphic design department of the North-West Print Institute. So, I couldn’t miss an opportunity to publish one of the projects of my students, which I did admire a lot.
And the Book section first presented a rare finding — a publication of the XVIII century «A Reasoning about the Perspective, which eases its' use». A true manual for the architects and artists of that time.
And we finished the first issue of «Projector» with the publication of the «A Van Goghs' Ear» — an artistic zine project of Girsch (Grigory Katsnelson).
